Working Families urges Silver Properties to negotiate with tenants
Working Families members are concerned about the status of residents at Albany and Sunnyside whose building was purchased by Silver Property Group earlier this year. Silver has purchased 15 buildings in Albany Park in the last few years and typically evicts the old tenants with only a month's notice, then greatly increases rents. Ron Abrams, the owner of Silver Property Group, has so far refused to meet with tenants as a group and fairly negotiate the terms of their eviction.

Dear Mr. Abrams :
On behalf of 33rd Ward Working Families, we are writing to express our support for the tenants of 4500 N. Albany/3102-3110 W. Sunnyside. We are an independent political organization in Chicago's 33rd Ward that seeks to promote the needs of working families, including access to affordable & dignified housing. We believe that all residents of Albany Park and the 33rd Ward have a right to live in the neighborhood and home of their choice, free of the threat of displacement.
The tenants of 3102-3110 W. Sunnyside are being evicted from their homes without cause and are not being given nearly enough time to find new housing. Most of the tenants are immigrants and some are living on disability, further complicating the moving process for them. Many of them are long-time residents of the neighborhood and the building itself, and are all members of the Albany Park community.
We ask that you treat these tenants with dignity and respect, that you negotiate with them in good faith, and that you accept their requests.
Steering Committee, 33rd Ward Working Families
